 Restart Plan Update

We are very proud of our students who have returned to school.  They have really adapted well to the new rules and safety protocols in place.   A special thank you to all staff (on-site and at home) who are working hard to continue to make learning accessible to all.

A thank you to our parent volunteers who have helped to make drop-off and pick-up run smoothly, as well.

Enjoy some photos of our first week back here:  SAS June Restart

GRADE 7 PARENT SOCIAL & GRADE 7 FAREWELL

Monday, June 22 at 7:00pm, we will be celebrating our departing students.  Details are still being finalized, but we are excited to put something special together for our grade 7 students for their devotion and love for St. Augustine School over the last 8 years!

The week before on Thursday, June 18 at 8:00pm, there will be a virtual Grade 7 Parent Social, which has become tradition for our Grade 7 parents as they mark this special time, as well.  We will send you the ZOOM information by email.

TALENT SHOW

As explained in the June Newsletter, we want to continue to honour and celebrate all our students who want to share their talents! Though we won’t be holding a live Talent Show like in the past, we invite all interested students to submit a video of their performance by Monday, June 15, which will be compiled and shared with all our classes later that week. There will be no
auditions. The criteria is simple: 1) the performance should be limited to 2-3 minutes and 2) attire, lyrics, and language should be appropriate. We are excited to be entertained by and to celebrate the many, many talents of our students!

For our new families unfamiliar with our Talent Show, past performances have included singing, playing of instruments, dancing, showcasing of aspects of a favourite sport, a magic show, just to name a few.

Parents, you can submit your video here:  SAS Talent Show 2020.  Click on the "Add to Album" symbol at the top right-hand corner to submit your video.  It will be vetted for approval before being shared with the greater community.  N.B.  Do NOT include your child's name nor grade level anywhere in the video.

REMOTE LEARNING UPDATE

ESSENTIAL!  Parents, please, ensure you start each week by reviewing your class' Weekly Overview on the school website HUB.  The content is not only different each week, but there may be some exceptional ZOOM links and other information that your teacher has set up  and indicated for specific to the week.

HAVE A LOOK!  Please, visit our school website for a new Learning Commons and Literacy Resources link created by Mrs. Moffat.  PHE, Music, and French also have LIVE learning blocks now.   Be sure to look at their Weekly Overviews, as well.

REMINDERS:

  • All students are expected to  check in daily for attendance during at least one of the three  Learning Blocks (9:00-10:00, 11:00-12:00, and 1:30-2:30).

  • There are NO Learning Blocks Wednesday afternoons, only the 9:00am and 11:00am Learning Blocks.

  • Remember to limit your child's daily learning to the following:

    • Primary (K-3): 1-2 hours maximum daily

    • Intermediate (Gr. 4-7): 1-3 hours maximum daily

A REVIEW OF KEY ASPECTS OF REMOTE LEARNING AT SAS

  • Do not forget to use the communication hub on our school website to begin your week.  Scroll down towards the middle of the page to view classroom links for announcements and the week's overview.  Teachers will have their links updated before Monday of each week.

  • In an effort to streamline communication between home and school and to make communication more efficient, all learning opportunities, lessons, and assignments will be explained and communicated EXCLUSIVELY on the website and through SeeSaw and/ or Google Classroom.

  •  SEESAW *- Kindergarten to Grade 3 and specialists (PHE, Music, and French) are using Seesaw to post learning activities.

*N.B. For Seesaw, parents/students should be using the CLASS app and NOT the Family App during remote learning to access the learning activities and to post work.

  • GOOGLE CLASSROOM - Grades 4 to 7 and specialists (PHE, Music, and French) are using Google Classroom to post learning activities.  Some intermediate classes are using a combination of Seesaw and Google Classroom.  Your teachers specify this in their weekly overview.

Mary, mother of eternal light, good Joseph faithful and just.

Jesus, morning star so bright, in you we put our trust.

On this day we praise and thank you for the mighty works you do;

As we face this new reality, we keep our hope in you.

Amen.
