COVID-19/ MINISTRY OF EDUCATION/ CISVA UPDATE

Wednesday, May 6, Premier John Horgan announced B.C.’s Restart Plan to slow the spread of COVID-19 while resuming a healthy and safe level of social and economic activity, including the announcement to expand in-class learning in our schools.

At this time, the expansion of in-class learning has not been defined and no dates have been fixed for our schools.  The CISVA is working closely with the Ministry of Education, Public Health authorities, and FISA to gather all information.  For now, our schools are asked to make no changes to the model of remote learning currently in place.  We are required to wait for the Ministry and the CISVA to give us clear directives and guidelines around what a return to in-class delivery of instruction can look like so that the safety and health of all in our community are ensured.

There are so many questions regarding safety, logistics, staffing concerns, parent concerns, and communication that need to be answered before we can put any kind of plan in place for our school.  As we plan forward, our next steps as a school and as a system must include coordinated measures to ensure the health and safety of our students and staff, and this needs to be done carefully and systemically.  I will communicate all new information as it becomes available.

The provincial documents below are provided for your reference. Additional information and guidelines, based on these materials, will be provided by the Ministry of Education over the coming weeks.

A REVIEW OF KEY ASPECTS OF REMOTE LEARNING AT SAS

  • Do not forget to use the communication hub on our school website to begin your week.  Scroll down towards the middle of the page to view classroom links for announcements and the week's overview.  Teachers will have their links updated before Monday of each week.

  • In an effort to streamline communication between home and school and to make communication more efficient, all learning opportunities, lessons, and assignments will be explained and communicated EXCLUSIVELY on the website and through SeeSaw and/ or Google Classroom.

  •  SEESAW *- Kindergarten to Grade 3 and specialists (PHE, Music, and French) are using Seesaw to post learning activities.

*N.B. For Seesaw, parents/students should be using the CLASS app and NOT the Family App during remote learning to access the learning activities and to post work.

  • GOOGLE CLASSROOM - Grades 4 to 7 and specialists (PHE, Music, and French) are using Google Classroom to post learning activities.  Some intermediate classes are using a combination of Seesaw and Google Classroom.  Your teachers specify this in their weekly overview.

REMINDER:  THEME DAYS (WEEK OF MAY 11)

One of our primary goals and guiding principles in this time of remote and at-home learning is to find ways to remain connected.  This week's virtual theme days will build school spirit and give us all an energy boost, not only in each classroom but across classrooms in the community.

As always through these challenging times, we want to be respectful and flexible and if your child is not able to participate, that is okay.  Though it is highly encouraged, particularly for the school mass, this is by invitation only.
