WEEKLY UPDATE

February 3 to February 7, 2020

FOOD BANK WEEK
FEBRUARY 3-7

We are asking students to support the Vancouver Food Bank so we can help to feed the hungry in our local community.
For one week, from Monday, Feb. 3 to Friday, Feb. 7, we will be collecting for the Vancouver Food Bank.

Outside each classroom will be cardboard boxes.  Your children’s challenge is to see how many classroom boxes they can fill with food items.  Let’s see which class fills the most boxes. To make it even more fun, for one week, each day they bring in an item, or a cash donation, they can wear something strange with their uniform.

  • On Monday, Feb. 3, if your child brings in a food bank item, or a cash donation, and they can wear a different shirt with their uniform

  • If on Tuesday, Feb. 4, they bring in a food bank item, or a cash donation, they get to wear a different sweater with their uniform.

  •
If on Wednesday, Feb. 5, they bring in a food bank item, or a cash donation, they get to wear a scarf with their uniform.

  • If on Thursday, Feb. 6, they bring in a food bank item, or a cash donation, they get to wear different pants or a different skirt with their uniform.

  • If on Friday, Feb. 7, they bring in three food bank items, or a $5.00 cash donation, they get to be in complete non-uniform.

The Greater Vancouver Food Bank is on the lookout for the following high protein, whole grain, lower sodium (salt), lower sugar items:
Canned fish, chicken or turkey
Canned black beans, chickpeas, and kidney beans
Dried Lentils
Nuts and/or seeds
Natural Peanut butter
Brown rice, barley and whole wheat pasta
Powdered skim milk
Canned vegetables
Canned fruit
Hearty stews with 10g or more protein

Please note, due to health and safety issues we are not able to accept the following items:
Homemade items
Expired food
Products containing alcohol
Open packages of food
Please do NOT bring any treats like cookies or candies.  These items clutter up the storage areas of the Food Bank as they do NOT distribute them.
