Principal's Message

Dear St. Augustine School Parents,

Winter can offer challenges, not only in daily life, but also in our spiritual life. Now that spring has begun, and the Easter season has begun, we should be intentional about leading a sacramental life and atttending mass in-person.

Remember, Easter, not Christmas as some mistakenly think, is the principal feast of the liturgical year. For Catholics, it is THE greatest feast, and it is not isolated to Easter Sunday.  The Easter season lasts 50 days, ending with Pentecost on May 19!

As a faith community, let’s once again make this year’s Easter season sacred and focused.  Let’s find ways to remain close and to not be distracted, and let’s spend these 50 days present to our families.  Like we did Easter Sunday, let us fill our churches and let us continue to fill our homes with prayer and worship and hope.

Happy Easter, St. Augustine families!  He is Risen!  Alleluia!

SCHOOL MASS April 5

Join us for our monthly School Mass Wednesday, April 5 at 9:15am prepared by Grade 5N.  All are welcome!

DIVERSITY AWARENESS MONTH & ASSEMBLY April 18
April is Diversity/ Autism Awareness Month for us at St. Augustine School with a focus on bringing attention to diversity. To celebrate together, we will be holding a special assembly Thursday, April 18 at 9:00am led by Ms. Siy's Kindergarten class. This day will also be a NON-UNIFORM day, as well; all students are encouraged to wear ANY COLOUR to celebrate uniqueness and all their differences.  The month is aimed at teaching all learners the values of friendship, empathy and inclusion.

SEXUALITY & YOUR CHILD PARENT EVENING April 18

This annual Grades 4-7 Parent Evening Thursday, April 18 will be from 7:00pm to 8:30pm.  At least one parent is asked to attend this special evening required for all CISVA schools.  Parents are asked to go to their child's classroom, where they will be previewing and discussing grade level specific  videos from the LoveEd program by Colleen Mast.  This program allows us to continue meeting the BC Ministry curriculum through an alternate delivery and honour our Catholic understanding that sexuality formation best happens in the family.   As a class and with your child's teacher, parents will be previewing the videos that you will then watch with your child at home afterwards.   It is the discussion among parents after and between the videos that we have found to be very beneficial during this important evening.

NEW FORMAT!  STUDENT-LED CONFERENCES
 April 10 AND April 11

Student-led Conferences will be held over two days this year.    School will be in session as usual Wednesday, April 10 but at 2:30pm our Student-led Conferences will begin at 2:30pm until 5:30pm.   The following day, Thursday, April 11, the confrences will resume from 8:00am to 1:00pm.

Sign-up forms will be sent home during Holy Week, and the deadline for return is Tuesday, April 2.  Assigned conference times will be confirmed Thursday, April 4.  Please, ensure that at least one parent is present on wither April 10 or 11 for the 45 minute timeslot when your child(ren) will be showcasing all their learning and work in-person.

Once again, Wednesday is a regular school day, followed by conferences starting at 2:30pm.   Thursday is NOT a regular school day, and student/parent(s) only need to attend during their scheduled timeslot.

EARTH DAY ASSEMBLY April 24

Our school community will learn about Earth Day and ways to help care for and clean up our environment Wednesday, April 24.  Our Earth Day Assembly will be at 9:00am, led by Ms. Santos' Kindergarten class.  For a week after the assembly (April 22-26), classes will be engaging in a neighbourhood clean-up throughout the week!
