Steering Committee

The Faith and Foundation Team is made up of talented and committed community members. Its leaders include a very active group of volunteers, many of whom have participated since 1999. The Team is focused on raising funds for the new school and all issues related to its construction.


Lawrence Pillon - Chair of Faith and Foundation
Lawrence has been a member of the team since 2002. He and his wife Maureen McEvoy are parents at the school. Their daughter Madison is in grade 6. He’s been a member of St. Augustine's parish since 1989. Lawrence was very active in the construction of the Parish Centre that was completed in 1998.

Vic Vela - Chair of the Building/Construction Committee
Vic is a St. Augustine parent, who’s been involved in commercial real estate finance for over 20 years. His two sons have attended St. Augustine, which convinced Vic of the high quality of education and spirit of giving gained from attending the School. He is strongly committed to ensuring that the community continues to receive this benefit for years to come.

Catherine Oberndorf - St. Augustine Principal
Catherine is principal of St. Augustine School and an ardent supporter of the Faith and Foundation Campaign. She’s been a member of the leadership team since its inception and believes that when everyone works together, giving of their time, talent and treasure, that anything is possible.

Jennifer Ingham - Major Gifts Outreach
Jennifer Ingham, VP Development for BC Lions Society for Children with Disabilities, and her husband Jim are parents of Jessica. She’s been actively involved with the Pass the Torch event, serving as co-chair and other leadership positions.

Marko Simcic - Architect
Marco has been a member of St. Augustine's Parish since 1990 and a member of the Campaign since its launch. Marko is both an architect and artist, working primarily in public art through the mediums of sculpture and painting.

Christine Guzman - Faith and Foundation Co-ordinator
Christine has one daughter in St. Augustine School, and one alumna currently at St. Patrick’s High School. She provides administrative support for the Campaign including special events, donor liaison and database management, and creative design for campaign literature

Linda Cormano
Linda is a parishioner at St. Augustine's and volunteers on the Building and the Pass the Torch Dinner Committees. Linda has worked for several years in the forest industry and is employed in the advisory group of a large professional service firm in Vancouver.

Brian Moylan
Brian has been an active member of St. Augustine's parish for more than 20 years, singing in the church choir for 10 of those. His son, Finlay, has attended St. Augustine School since kindergarten. In the early years of the Campaign, Brian provided video design and production to help tell the story of building a new school. Today he brings his full marketing and communications expertise to the Faith and Foundation team.

Mary Lynn Young
Mary Lynn provides communications support for the  Campaign.  Her daughter graduated from St. Augustine School in 2010.  Mary Lynn is the Director of the UBC Graduate School of Journalism.

Mark Wan
Mark has two children, Linus, a 2008 graduate and Judith in Grade 7. He has been in the Parish since 2002 and is the technology leader of the group.

Clare Thomson
Clare is the co-chair of the highly successful annual Pass the Torch Gala.  She has been a parishioner for 7 years, and her daughter attends St. Augustine school.

Eileen Cervi 
Eileen is the co-chair of the highly successful annual Pass the Torch Gala.  Eileen teaches high school at St. Patrick’s in Vancouver and has been a parishioner for nearly twenty years. Her daughter is a student at St. Augustine school.

Team Members

Claudine and Nick Maille
Claudine and Nick have been attending St. Augustine's Parish for almost 15 years. All 3 of their children were baptized at St. Augustine's and all but one attend St. Augustine School. Nick's background as a structural engineer came in handy when he completed a seismic assessment of the current school, which led to the recommendation to proceed with a new structure.

Pat Battle
Pat has been a very active parishioner in the community for nearly 80 years. She attended St. Augustine School from Grade 1 through 12 at the time when the Sisters of St. Ann taught there. Over the years she has been a leader in various organizations such as the CWL, CYO, the PTA, and the Parish Council. Five of Pat's children also attended St. Augustine School.

Geri Fujisawa
Geri has been a member of St. Augustine's Parish since 1951. She’s a volunteer in the Parish office and an executive on the CWL at St. Augustine's Parish. She is starting up bi-monthly seniors' outreach activities and is heavily involved in the Fall Fair.

John and Lisa Ward
John and Lisa's roots run deep at St. Augustine. John has been a parishioner since 1989 after moving here from Toronto. Lisa has been a parishioner for 15 years upon returning home to Vancouver from Eastern Canada. They have two children, Matthew, 12 and Sarah, 8, both of whom attend St. Augustine School. John and Lisa have been involved in many ministries over the years, including Baptism Preparation, Marriage Preparation, and as Lectors and Eucharistic Ministers. They’re strong supporters of Catholic education, believing that faith is formed at home, in school and in the broader community.

Donna O'Hara - Alumni Liaison
Donna is a member of St. Augustine’s parish. She’s been a teacher in the CISVA (Catholic Independent School of Vancouver Archdiocese) for 31 years, the last 18 at St. Augustine School.

Dick Stout
Dick and Pat Stout have been connected to the St. Augustine School community since the Fall of 1989. Both of their sons attended and graduated from St. Augustine. Pat has been teaching at the school for nearly twenty years. Dick practices architecture in Vancouver as a principal with Dysarchitecture, and joined the building committee team to assist with programming, civic coordination, and publicity planning.

Chuck Luttrell
Chuck has been a parishioner at St. Augustine since 1999. He is married to Marie and they have five children and five grandchildren. Chuck has been involved with Catholic education since 1967, having been an elementary and high school principal as well as serving as assistant superintendent for 17 years. He presently serves as the director of the Archdiocesan Office of Religious Education. Chuck is a frequent presenter at conferences and workshops focusing on a variety of educational topics and a particular passion for assisting parents in their role as ‘primary educators’.

Teresa Evans
Teresa has been a member of St. Augustine's parish for 37 years. She has had a long, award-winning career in the hospitality industry, having served as publisher and editor of magazines dedicated to this sector. Teresa retired in 2000 and is now president of Evans Consulting. She is very supportive of children's charities, most actively with the C.H.I.L.D. Foundation where she sits as a member of its board of directors.

Colleen Vinnick
Colleen and her husband Jeff are parents to two children at St. Augustine’s.  She has been involved in many aspects of the Campaign and Pass the Torch.  Colleen is currently providing administrative and database support for over 700 donors, working  very closely with Christine Guzman.
